DARK SHADOWS: Nights in White Satin Film & Original Series Music Videos

The soundtrack of Tim Burton’s take on Dark Shadows features the Moody Blues’ classic “Nights in White Satin.” What isn’t surprising is that a fan of the film created a music video utilizing the song, which is cut to the early and, some would say, far superior sequences which treats the material with a certain seriousness. The second video, which only runs about 90 seconds, features footage from the original series. Just curious: what are your thoughts watching them? Do you prefer one to the other?

  1. Nights In White Satin is one of my favourite songs of ALL time. I’ve loved this song since I was 5 years old in 1967. The video on top was playing the song too fast but the collection of clips was beautiful. That was the movie so many of us Dark Shadows had been craving all these years. The video only shows the lost opportunity the Tim Burton version of DS had been. I wish someone would film the John August script.

The second video plays the song at the correct speed but the clips move a little too fast. Having said that, this video shows that these old clips have a LOT of power. The actors transcend the small budget for sets and special effects and create something that’s magical and lasting.
