Eva Green as Angelique in Dark Shadows: Three Images

Eva Green stars in Dark Shadows as Angelique, Barnabas’ scorned lover who, in the 1700s, gets her vengeance by transforming him into a vampire and then burying him “alive” in his undead state. Warner Bros. has released three new images of the actress (perhaps best known for her role as Vesper in the James Bond film Casino Royale), one of which is a behind the scenes shot that features her with director Tim Burton.

  1. Holy crap, she looks SEXY!!! :-) Well, I’m still not going to see the movie if it’s a comedy…sorry, Eva…:-(

  2. I’ve been doing some digging, and the impression I get is that while there will be humor and a bit of “whimsy,” the film is nonetheless going to be appealing to fans of the original series. It will reportedly be a “respectful” treatment of the material.

But let’s face it, it has to be updated or the audience is going to be limited. I know I sound like a broken record here, but had JJ Abrams just tried to do another Star Trek movie in the style of the others, it would have been a box office disaster. Rebooting while maintaining the basic tenants of the franchise was the way to go.

  3. “Whimsy” I can handle. Star Trek had to change for sure…no problem with that and I think JJ was overall successful with that. I don’t know, I’m sure my curiousity will get the better of me and I’ll relent on going to go see DS — that is, unless the trailer makes it look like a romp. Some things about this new version look good…the production looks good to me and I didn’t have any issues with the casting. As you say, I would expect the film to be respectful of the original material and not be a romp like Land of the Lost was…

  4. Truthfully, I don’t think they would dare go in the camp direction of Land of the Lost. While I’m tentative about it, I’m actually feeling kind of confident that this film could work… if old-time fans go in to it with an open mind.

Again I’m repeating myself from another post, but Dark Shadows NEEDS this movie to work. If it doesn’t, then this beloved franchise is going to gradually fade away and THAT would be truly be a shame.

  5. Well, nobody wants it to be a success more than me…I watched DS in it’s original run and was one of those kids who “ran home from school” to watch it. But having said that, I just want it to continue in the spirit of the original and not become a joke at it’s own expense. I know in the modern age, werewolves and vampires are not really taken seriously, but I just believe a serious telling of DS is possible and capable of being a success. Like anything else, it’s all in the execution…
