The new issue of Famous Monsters of Filmland is adorned with a painted cover image of Johnny Depp in the role of vampire Barnabas Collins in Tim Burton’s version of Dark Shadows. This is actually far from the only time that there has been a tie between DS and FM, as the magazine in its original incarnation covered the show and even the first film (1970′s House of Dark Shadows) in some detail. For that reason, we’re not only taking a look at the current issue of the magazine, but those from the past as well (with issues of Castle of Frankenstein and Monsters of the Movies thrown in for good measure).

Looks good. I still have the two Barnabas cover issues printed in the 60′s…
