Dark Shadows’ Underwater Ghost

BScine.com (a website devoted to the efforts of British cinematographers) is offering up an intriguing behind the scenes photo from Tim Burton’s big screen version of Dark Shadows. In a move that is about as far removed from the original ’60s’ soap opera as you can probably get, we’re seeing a radically different approach to ghosts. Whereas on the old show it’s likely that an actress would be placed on a platform of sorts with wires attached to hair and costume to provide the proper billowy look, here we see an actress submerged in a tank of water to provide a more natural look to that billowing. We could be wrong, of course, and this could just be an underwater haunting or something, but either way it’s a pretty fascinating image.
